The book Dead Girls Don’t Lie by Jennifer Shaw Wolf is about a girl named JayCee and her friend, Rachel, who has been murdered. After her death, Rachel left JayCee clues to solve both Rachel and her boyfriend, Manny’s, murders. The two main characters are JayCee and Skylar.
The biggest struggle for JayCee was solving the murders along with staying alive. Skylar’s biggest struggle was this liking towards JayCee and his belief that he is a monster. Both of their struggles were solved at the end when Jaycee figured out why Skylar related himself to a monster. He is a monster because he turns out to be the murderer.
JayCee changed throughout the story because at the beginning, she obeyed and did things the ‘right way.’ Towards the end, she gave up on doing everything the right way and stopped obeying what her father said. Skylar also changed; he went from being loving and kind to a being a murderer. I think the theme of this story is to truly know who you fall in love with, pay more attention to the people around you and always do things the right way.

The author’s writing style is negative. For example, the author describes that the murder, “brings back guilt, fear, anger… pain, regret, and pitch black horribleness.” (Page 6).
