Three Cheers for Greenville Cheering

The Greenville High school cheer team has been through a lot in the past few years. This year there are 22 girls on the cheer team this year. This is a huge difference than the 5 people there was last year. Along with a larger cheer team, there is a new cheer coach which is also the senior seminar teacher Mrs. Hughes.
This year the cheer team is excited about going to competition and hopefully winning. Greenville hasn’t gone to a cheer competition in 2 years and this is many of the girls first year joining cheer. The cheer team has been working on more stunts, more tumbling, and more team building. The cheerleaders have also been working on their extensions to make it look more smooth and make it more safe for the flyers. The cheer team would like to go to more competitions and they would also like to learn new stunts, but this requires that there is more funding to go to the cheer team. Because the cheer team hasn’t been a really big thing in Greenville it is hard to get funding for the program which is a shame because the cheer team would be a big success if there was more funding for the girls.

This year the girls will be cheering at both, the girls' basketball games and the boys' basketball games. They will be announced at every game. The cheerleaders will also be cheering at the senior match for the wrestlers. There have never been cheerleaders for the wrestlers so it will be cool to see some change in the events after school. This year the cheerleaders are “going all in” stated Jenna Colwell, 12th grade.
