Egg Nog Prices Got You Down?
Pick up these ingredients, and pick up your holiday spirits
By Xavier Volmer
With December arriving just as fast as every year, yet as equally surprising as every other year, there are many things that the new season brings with it. Whether its cold and brutal storms, cyclic family reunions, or days off from school, one warming item that repeats itself is the return of many foods and drinks. One of my personal favorites is the return of the Egg Nog. But with it being such a hot commodity this time of year, it comes at a costly price. This recipe will provide you with a new recipe to both save money, and time. First, you’ll need 6 ingredients;
4 egg yolks
⅓ cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1-pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
4 egg whites
Now the steps are as follows;
In a large bowl, you’ll beat the egg yolks until the color becomes lighter, add the pre-measured ⅓ sugar and continue to beat until the sugar has dissolved completely. Then add the cream, milk, and nutmeg and stir to mix.
Next, you’ll wanna put the egg whites in a stand mixer bowl, and beat to “soft peaks”. Which is defined as “When you turn your whisk upside down, the peaks are just starting to hold. They're soft and melt back into themselves after a second”. With the mixer still running, add the pre-measured 1 tbsp of sugar, and beat until stiff peaks form.
Finally, you'll wanna whisk egg whites into the mixture, chill the mixture and serve.
The recipe is adapted slightly from the official food network website, where you can find a video and the original recipe.
